Recycling
Ordinance Highlights
- Recycles
newsprint and other paper, Numbers 1 and 2 plastics, aluminum
and bi-metallic cans and glass.
- Three haulers
are licensed to operate in the township. Residents contract with
the hauler of their choice.
- Over the
past three years (1996, 1997, 1998) borough residents have recycled
over 969 tons of materials.
- Enforcement
of the recycling ordinance falls under the jurisdiction of the
borough zoning officer.
- During October
and November, the borough collects leaves from the curbs of the
borough with leaf vacuums. Public works employees take the leaves
to a DEP approved storage site where they are turned into compost
for the borough's residents to use.

award to (left) Patricia Hoffman, property manager of

The
Washington Glen Apartment complex in Telford Borough is not
large as many complexes. It only has 20 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom
apartments. But for what it lacks in size it more than makes up
when it comes to recycling.
When
residents move into the complex, they are given a flyer that clearly
explains what they must recycle and where it is to be put. Management
provides three separate containers for materials; one for paper,
one for glass and one for plastic. The management reports that residents
are extremely conscientious about using the containers and that
they have had good cooperation from them.
Because
of the effectiveness and efficiency of the program, the Borough
of Telford awarded the "Excellence in Recycling" in Telford Borough
to the Washington Glen Apartments.
