Northern
Montgomery County Recycling Commission Communities Increase 2002
Residential Recycling 59% Over 2000
The eight communities
making up the Northern Montgomery County Recycling Commission (NMCRC)
will earn an estimated $457,377 for their recycling activities in
2002. The final report was presented to the Commission at its October
meeting.
"We're pleased
that the recycling efforts of our communities are on the rise,"
said Edward Brandt, chairman of the NMCRC and a supervisor from
Lower Gwynedd Township. "We need to continue to increase our recycling
efforts to continue to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills."
Each municipality's
recycling performance is reported to the DEP. An award amount is
calculated by the DEP. That award is returned to the municipalities
which can use the money for the benefit of the residents in the
form of tax breaks, improved municipal services, increased recycling
activities or other services. The bottom line is that the more a
community recycles, the more money it receives.
