Recycling
Ordinance Highlights
- Recycles
newsprint and other paper, Numbers 1 and 2 plastics, aluminum
and bi-metallic cans and glass. The township has no single hauler.
As a result, residents make arrangements to contract with their
hauler of choice.
- Over the
past three years (1996, 1997, 1998) township residents have recycled
over 1,242 tons of materials.
- The township
recently established a cardboard recycling drop-off center that
is located at the highway maintenance building at 480 Indian Creek
Road. Thus far, the container has been a success with the residents.
- The recycling
ordinance is enforced by the Code Enforcement Department. The
responsibility for its enforcement lies with the Building/Plumbing
Inspector.
- For additional
information on recycling, contact the township office: 215-723-1137.

Township. |
This
year's winner in Franconia Township is the Alderfer Glass Company,
a firm that has existed in the township for more than 40 years and
is locally owned. The company manufactures a wide variety of windows
at its township site.
Besides
large panes of glass that are trucked in almost daily, the company
receives a great deal of auto glass and mirrors. Most of these materials
arrive at the plant in large cardboard containers. Once emptied,
the packaging is crushed and placed in special cardboard recycling
bins located strategically around the plant.
The
company also recycles other materials but it is the cardboard that
has the greatest impact on the Northern Commission. Because of the
effort the company devotes to recycling, Franconia Township awarded
the "Excellence in Recycling" Award to the Alderfer Glass Company.
