Meet Your Recycling Representatives The Northern Montgomery County Recycling Commission was formed after the Northern Montgomery County Waste System Authority was dissolved by the county in 1996. Eight communities formed the Commission in August of that year to coordinate their recycling activities. Each municipality amended its recycling ordinance to name the Commission as its agent for compliance with Act 101 and PADEP recycling regulations. The commission named P. Glenn Moyer, Solicitor, and Hough Associates, Consultant. The goals of the Commission were to increase residential recycling to 20% in 1997, 22.5% in 1998, and 25% by 1999. The current state goal is to increase the recycling rate to 35% by the year 2002. The Commission plan to reach these goals by taking steps to decrease waste that goes to the landfill and to increase the amount of curbside and commercial recycling. The recycling rate was less than 15% prior to the formation of the Commission. The Commission sponsors organizations and educational activities that increase the awareness of recycling. The Commission meets at 4:30 P.M. on the first Tuesday of every month at the Souderton Borough Hall. The public is invited to attend. Return to top. The Commissioners
