Acme Markets of Ambler Borough received the Excellence in Recycling Award for 2003.

Acme Markets has a strong corporate recycling policy that impacts every store that operates under its familiar name. That includes the Acme Market in Ambler Borough. Everyone from the new employee to the old timer is trained to be "hands on" when it comes to recycling.

When the store was built in 1958, few worried about recycling. Now, everyone does. Almost everything from canned goods and produce enters the store packaged in those familiar cardboard boxes. Once the products find their way onto the shelves, the packaging is broken down and made ready to be baled.

Three times a week, a shipment cardboard is sent to a corporate location in Lancaster where it is sold for reprocessing and eventual reuse. Because of its commitment to recycling at the local as well as national level, Ambler Borough awarded the "Excellence in Recycling Award" for recycling occurring in 2003 to the local Acme Market.
